The Newnham Explorer Unit is partnered with the 11th/9th Scout Group and is open to 14 to 18 year olds, both those moving on from Scouts and anyone else wishing to join Explorers from outside of Scouting.
On weekday evenings we get up to a wide range of stuff in Explorers, from pioneering, cooking over fires, games and activities to getting out and about geocaching, map reading and even going on backstage tours and watching panto! We are also running a DofE group within Explorers for anyone who is keen to be involved with the DofE and partake in the Young Leader scheme for any Explorer who has an interest in helping to lead younger sections (it also counts towards DofE!)
We also have the opportunity to go on a number of camps every year. These are the most exciting part of the Explorers program and often see everyone disappearing off to an exotic location for a week or weekend of fun in the countryside! The camp programmes are very varied and allow us to get up to some of our most exciting activities depending on where we go. Camps have an emphasis on camping and scouting skills as well as having fun doing extreme activities such as ghyll scrambling and caving! In a normal year we aim to have a Survival Camp, Winter Camp, Spring Camp and to top it all off a Week long Summer Camp.
The unit meets at the Newnham Scout and Guide Centre on Mondays at 7:45pm (8:00pm prompt start) finishing at 9:30pm.
Our uniforms page has all the details about what to wear and where badges should be sewn.
